You are familiar with the concept of an ear-worm? That tune you can’t get out of your head? This quote has plagued me like a brain-worm. I can’t think of a pithier description of the creative process.
“I write to equalize the pressure from without and from within.” ~ Vera Pavlova, poet.
With an undergraduate degree in Religion and Philosophy, complimented with graduate work in the History of Ideas, Doug has spent his life chasing some of life’s big questions. As a result he has delved deeply into wisdom traditions both ancient and modern, including the philosophical schools of Existentialism, Pragmatism, and Stoicism; he has also explored several of the Eastern traditions, principally Zen Buddhism and Taoism. Admittedly, he is no expert on anything, being a simple pilgrim.
Some (not to name names as he may be someone you know) seem to have their release valves running through the middle digit of the left hand (left hand, at least when driving, to allow easier visibility from outside). I suppose that is also a means to equalize pressure from without and from within. Never thought of it that way, nor as a creative process, but I will ponder the connection.
BTW, can you give me the name of the installer of the valve inserted in the gentleman’s head?
